Buyer Stats
These buyer stats really never change!
99% of customers want to drive, before they buy. Yep, just like you and me, we don’t buy TVs without seeing the picture first, or cars without driving them.
90%+ of customers did their research online. I planned to replace one of my vehicles, and of course – I did my research online just like we all do.
78% you talk to will buy within one week, somewhere. That’s another thing about people – other than necessities, most of our purchases are impulse driven, and that’s why you get one shot. If you don’t actually sell it, the next salesperson they talk to will.
71% bought because they liked their salesperson (and felt comfortable with the dealership and the process). Yep, me too. I eventually found a guy we felt comfortable with, who asked good questions, focused on what we wanted & why, so we bought and I refer my friends.
Only 58% buy the exact product they planned to buy. I’d had Rovers, but wanted a GM or Ford, decided on GMC, and went back to the dealership to buy.
I went to buy, not to waste their time.
Consistent in all stores; lousy intro, no questions on what I wanted or why, no presentation except ‘Car-Play®’. I had to ask questions at each place I stopped.
I did what everybody else does – I bought from a very nice pro,
who knew how to sell cars.
