The bad news is that average salespeople are just doing what they’ve always done – not much. My first managers didn’t teach me goal setting, they just helped me create the need to sell more by getting me to buy more stuff. And it worked; I had a demo, a car, a boat and a motorcycle. That means I had bills I had to pay, so I always made sure I earned enough to get along. But getting along shouldn’t be your goal and you don’t need to buy a bunch of stuff just to motivate yourself to come to work to work to earn more.
