How To Lose 3 Sales At A Time

I was having my BMW serviced for the first time, and while I waited, started talking to another customer. I assumed he’d bought there, and asked him about service.

He said service was great.

When I asked if he bought his car there, he said – “No, the price was higher than I thought it would be.”

So me, being me, I started asking questions…

Wow, I’m surprised to hear that – you found the right car and made an offer they wouldn’t take?

“No, we never even went inside. The salesperson told me what the best price was, and he said that they wouldn’t budge on it. Then I asked him what he thought my trade was worth.”

I asked – Did anyone take a look at it? “No, the salesperson told me what it was worth, what I could buy the 750 for and what payments would be. It just seemed way too high and nothing close to what I expected for my car. The other dealer offered a much better deal.”

(He paused.) “I really like this dealership better and wish I could have gotten it here. My son got a new 325 and about 2 months later, my wife got a new convertible, too.”

Quit talking price and pretending you can work the deal on the lot.

Just do your job instead, and let your managers do theirs.
