Winning Attitudes
Albert Einstein did terrible at arithmetic, Winston Churchill got lousy grades in English, and both ended up being two of the greatest men in history. And I saw a pic of Jeff Bezos the other day when he started Amazon in his apartment. Now he’s worth $135,000,000,000 (135 billion dollars).
Persistence eliminates resistance!
Whether you’re trying to close the sale or carve out a successful career, the secret is to keep pushing and pushing and moving forward. It isn’t how far you get on each push, it’s that you move closer to your goal.
Baby steps are fine, and preferable most of the time…
When I say don’t give up, I’m not talking about just quitting, I’m talking about mentally throwing in the towel because you missed a sale, missed your goal, or because you asked for the order and they said ‘no’.
If you’re at 8 units now and want to sell 20, don’t throw in the towel if you only sell 8.5 next month. Throw a party instead to congratulate yourself on improving and moving a step closer to hitting your goal.
Selling more and closing is easy, if you develop your skills. It’s proven that over 80% of the sales are made after the 5th time you ask for the order, deal with a concern or objection and close again.
Most people don’t even try to close. Those who do, only try once or twice and give up and call whine-11 to tell the world that selling is so hard. Reality: If you lack the skills or give up after just 3 or 4 attempts, you quit just when you were closest to making the sale.
Almost all of the most successful people I’ve read about said their success came just one step past where they were ready to give up. (Hint: Don’t give up.) The salespeople who make it to the top develop their skills, go to work to work, learn to control their disappointments and just keep pushing forward.
As long as you’re still working hard to reach a goal, there’s a realistic chance you’ll eventually hit it. When you stop trying though – you cut your chance of success to zero. Just remember the old saying…
Quitters never win, and winners never quit.
